I am in possession of the above kit and would like to paint the MTB with a coastal forces camoflage based upon white ligt and medium grey as per Dave Abbots MTB 74.

Can anyone provide some steer on colours to use. White ensign models have a colour range but I prefer to use acrylics and can find no comparison charts for their colours.

Greetings Nige from 'way downunder',

You lucky duck already having your hands on Italeri's Vosper, us out 'ere in the colonies have to wait another month or two for it to arrive in our Aussie hobby shops. I must say it will be well worth the wait if their PT 596 kit is anything to go by, plus I'm a tad keen to order their PT 109 kit when it's released later this year. I have that bit of news ('109') direct from Italeri themselves. One little disappointment (for me) is that they don't intend doing RN crew figures for the Vosper which I find a tad odd especially as they have produced figures for all their other 1/35th boats. I have asked 'why not?' but so far have not had a response.

Enough bleeting, now to answer your question re MTB 74 colours. There doesn't appear to be a facility here where I may add a piccy so these are the following Humbrol colours I have chosen to use (so far I have painted a wee 1/600 model and plan on doing a 1/144th model at some stage --

The lightest colour which I believe is 507c I would use Hum 147.
The next darkest colour (a bluey-grey) I believe is B5 and my choice is Hum 144           and
The darkest colour MS2 my choice would be Hum 53.
The deck appears on Dave Abbott's model appears to be B5, quite a few RN camo info indicates the decks on home waters craft were (mostly) painted B15 (Hum 157).

These RN colours came from James Dorrian, author of the very good 'Storming St Nazaire' and he got them from a very notable modelling friend who we have both lost contact with. James also has a blog on Op Chariot, if you or anyone else reading this let me know and I'll post it on this forum.

G'Day rog.

Thanks for this. I am sure your wait will be worth it. Have you thought of EBAY (greedbay as we call it) you can sometimes get these kits from hong kong cheaper inc shipping than you can from the local hobby shops. Thats what I did and I saved a fortune.

I now have the S-100 E Boat, PT boat and the MTB all for less that 2 of the most expensive kits via this route including shipping.

If you go to www.fleetscale.co./uk yopu can pick up the photos of my builds in the forum under 1958nige. There you will be able to see the Trumpeter Arizona almost complete and some piccys of the E Boat. I will be posting updates as and when. Also on there is my 1/72 SIr Bedivere and HMS Westminster.

On dave abbots model and my late fathers LCSM for D DAy there was a lot of white used as far as he could remember but he could not remember the other colours.

I tend to use Vallejo Model Air pains so will convert the humbrol colours into those. They are so much easier to use and make virtually no mess with the spray gun being washed away with plain old tap water.

Hi again Nige,

I am obligated to buy the Vosper through my local hobby shop, have been paying like a layby so I'll just have to wait. The link you provided doesn't seem to work, it lead me to site possibilities that didn't quite equate to your photo album.

Rog.

Go to the forum and look under other scales for the USS Arizona and S Boat and under 1/72 scale for the HMS Westminster build
