Does any one know where I can dig up some info on the Vosper MTB's that were made in America for the Russians?

Hello wildspear - welcome aboard In John Lambert and Al Ross's Volume 2 'Allied Coastal Forces of WW2' there is a list given of the licence built American Vospers transfered to the USSR plus a brief piece on their developement - but none of their Wartime exploits. Would be interesting to hear anything new here Regards |

Hello Wildspear, Just noticed your query - must look harder next time! If it helps I remember reading a book called 'Flag 4' which was a factual account of MTBs in action in the Med. I am sure there was mention of American built Vospers plus there were lists of boat pennant numbers (some with named Skippers/crews) which you might be able to cross reference. Hope it helps Adrian |

Adrian, Thanks for the reply and the info I will look that book up at my local book store. I have started work on my 1/72 model vosper(revell). Since the american vosper was basicly the same(i think) as a british vosper does any one have a few good shots of the stern? I need something that shows the exhaust and the smoke discharge racks fairly well. |

Hi Wildspear Presuming that you intend to finish this kit as a US build, the arrangement of these items is pretty much as per the kit. Beware however the hull moulding has a massive error, the vee runs all the way aft whereas it should flatten off, tailing off to an almost straight line across the bottom of the transom. The boat depicted in the kit is "as exported", in other words if you wanted to make it look like a boat in RN service you would need to make several changes, most obviously to the torpedo tubes. |

Flag 4 is a great book and if you are interested in M.T.B.'S a must book to read unfortunatly when anything built in the West went to Russia they tended to rename the builder's as Russian, ESPECIALLY if they had come from America (they also tended to ignore the American lives lost on the Russian Convoy's as well!). The best people to contact in regard's to what happened and if any were returned are the P.T.Boat Groups who have some info on lend/lease vessel's of the coastal forces and may have info on the Vosper's, I did see a picture of a Vosper outside the gate of a Black Sea Russian naval base some years ago on Television so that one never came back!
