Hello ,
I have read the posts concerning HSL 145 with interest. Shame im not closer or I would be there now doing some work!
I was wondering if anyone knows of a similar project closer to me(middlesbrough) that I may take a look at.
My aim would be simply to take something that is beyond saving at the moment and seal it up as a house boat so that it may survive a few more years until some one with lots of cash can take her over to refit properly.
Some may be appalled at the idea of me taking the remains of such an important boat and making a house boat, but lets remember that most of these fine boats only survive because of being converted into house boats.
It seams a good way to continue to survive when the alternative may be burning or dismantling.
If anyone knows of anything in my area I would love to take a look.

Same here mate!

If you hadnt taken on 1262 then it would've been torched by now!

Originally wanted one as a lifestyle choice but the housing market has made it a practical alternative.

Moorings by me are the same as the council tax on a three bedroom house and the house repayments can be spent on restoration. also being self employed you should try getting a mortgage these days.

Having plenty of space they can be restored to service condition and have the comforts of home(unlike a narrowboat you can still have a huge plasma tv),without ripping out all the bulkheads and dropping a portacabin on top, If you want to do that buy a lighter.

I can see why people are wary of the houseboat conversion as I've seen every variation from derelict wrecks to one with the wheelhouse made from upvc cladding(they wanted 60k for that??)

Lewina is fitted as a liveaboard and thats hardly an embarassment.

Recommend these boats only for competent diy nuts or people with deep pockets and an understanding shipwright but if you can save one from the chainsaw even a boatvirgin will learn quickly. if you cant do it justice you can pass it on knowing you brought it a little more time.

After all, you wouldnt be reading these forums if you didnt want them to survive.

A boat is a hole in the water surrounded by wood, into which one throws money

I think that you know that there was a HDML for sale in Hartlepool  marina  recently.  Already a houseboat so nothing to do...
Cheers

The idea of having a houseboat will have to wait for now. I have rather a lot to do with my current project so time and hard cash are at a premium. However does anyone know if the HDML in Hartlepool sold or not?
