Better put service manuals for engines & boxes on the wanted list. Theres always something that can go wrong & rather have all three on top form from the start. Shipping her back would be better(at least until branscombe sands), the price is a bit scary though. Talking of tanks, have to work out fuel stops before bringing her back. Dont fancy getting the oars out for this one |

On the insurance front the position is that there are very very few companies who will insure even third party without a survey and none who will do a full policy without survey and valuation. Given that she must carry some sort of insurance when she goes back in the water we have no choice but to take whatever third party policy is avaliable and then go from there with a full policy which will cost. To insure her without making a proper declaration as to her position etc is asking for trouble particularly if she is comming home on her own keel. Clive can you pm me your number so we can sort out who to contact to get the boxes to Malta at the bargain rate. Thanks Engines. I think it would be folly to try and put big engines in her now even if we could afford it. I would however like to think that at some stage in the restoration we will be able to source 3 diesels of about 300 hp each so she should plane OK! I am working on the sponsorship for that even now. I should also say that the probability as at this pm is that the restoration will proably be the subject on a TV program or series of programs, which should help get some sponsors. BUT it has to be completed in not more than 2 years and preferably 18 months. We have some serious money to raise. Edited by S R Wilson |

I'll work the camera(to ugly to be on telly lol). your right there Sentley, very unwise to put lots of power in her until timbers sorted & a bit of bracing added(she's an old lady remember). If she'll get home on her own keel then best to go with what we know she can handle. |

Have just had a fund raising offer made by an artist (who has done the same for a steam locomotive) the idea is that he does an original painting which is auctioned and limited edition prints are sold. The loco project raised a couple of grand! I am hoping to see some of his work soon. Could be a good idea. Remember if you can't take a joke, you shouldn't have joined. Regards David.

Sorry the updates are slow but we're pretty busy trying to get this sorted.
She'll be on the slip within a few days and we'll have less than 2 weeks to have her surveyed, see if she is (hopefully) repairable, make temporary repairs to pretty much the whole port bottom side, paint/antifoul and hopefully get and fit gearboxes and a prop and shaft. We also have to sort insurance based on the state of the hull. It's a bit of a hill to climb. All offers of help welcome. Trip to Malta anyone....? |

Hi all, Indeed, a mountain to climb! interestesting re fund raising, we have an almost embarassment of pictures and paintings with the Medway Queen but it can work, it depends on the marketing of the pictures and getting them shifted to realise the money, also any costs involved in thier production, be carefull of upfront costs unless you really think you can re-coup them. We have a great couple who do our sales and a chap in Reading, they raise several thousand a year, and have done so for years, very hard work and takes dedication and effort for which we are very gratefull of course, see our site and sales list, also other groups have different ideas. Hi All Quick update on 506. We have a few more weeks grace from Captain Morgan before we have to commit to take her. Then it may be a wait to May before she is slipped for repairs etc. We are busy looking at various repair, engine, transit options etc. But "The Group" are definitely on the case so don't worry she wont be "recycled"! Request for information. Does anyone have or know of a formular/computer program for calculating the power output required to get to a particular speed in any given boat. Hopefully at some stage we will need to know what sort of power output the engins we buy will have to have to get 506 planning. Don't want over kill but enough power. Something that we can put in all the variables and come out with the answers. Thanks in advance. |
