Elsewhere on this site there is an opinion given, outlining a very brief account of the development of the ‘traditional’ Coastal Forces craft.

http://www.bmpt.org.uk/coastal_forces.htm

That account ended with a glimpse of some fairly recent past (late 1980’s) developments being made in the USA – namely USS Sea Shadow.

This new link http://www.mshipco.com gives a look at very recent developments (2007) being made in the USA and although most is computer animation, for the eagle eyed there is footage of an actual Hull on sea trials (click on first image at bottom of page). Well worth a look.

It must be my age but for C.A.D./C.A.M. read downright ugly when it comes to today's designs for boats, efficient as they may be, for me there is nothing like the hand drawn sweeping bow of a "Whaleback" or a Don Arrownow "Cigarette" which are still being built despite his premature death with a bullet ( even if the Big M helped him with the design costs), as far as Carbon Fibre is concerned this material is more dangerous than asbestos if it is cut, drilled or burnt as it attracts infection if it  breaks the skin, when a Harrier crashed and burnt in Germany some years the recovery team had to wear full N.B.C. suits which lead the poor Farmer to believe that it had a Nuclear Weapon on board and he cleared off sharpish.
