Hi All,

Went up to Lowestoft to Newsons yard to have a look at thier new boat shed and moorings. Magnificient site, especailly with MTB 102 on the cradle, met with Richard painting away at the numbers on her side, sorry Richard for the interuption hope we did not spoil the work!. Also met with top man Keith who showed us around. Not only are the facilities great, but if you need good advice on how to take care of old wooden craft, they are the people who know!. Along with Richard Basey of 102 and the chaps restoring HDML Medusa, I would urge all those with such craft to seek the advice of these people who really know thier stuff. More information on Newsons web-site, which can be accessed via a search or better still go via MTB 102 who has a link on the BMPT site Links section, see the programme of events for 102 in her seventieth year, if you can, do try and support her either on a trip or become a Friend of 102, I have since 2001 and count it a great pleasure and a privilage to support her in my very small way. Anyway that's it for now,

Johnl

MTB102 will be back in the water Tuesday AM and weather permitting will be on the South Coast by April 18th, thanks to Newsons Boatyard and their usual excellent service. It has been great to have 102 under cover for the worst of the winter.

If it ain't broke don't fix it!

Newsons Boatyard Hydroplane. Newsons have, over last winter, produced a new hydroplane of exceptional perfomance which is doing very well in this seasons racing. Their experience ranges from specialist high performance boats spanning over 70 years development to quality cruising boats and fishing vessels of various sorts. The MTB102 Trust is very happy with their repairs and modifications to MTB102 which have enabled us to keep her operational.

Having been to Newsons, additional to what you have said regarding the hydroplane you have to give the 'pilot' credit for hurtling along head first, at god knows what speed over the surface of the water and still remember to steer!

"Pilot" is correct as this particular boat does fly. I've seen the pics. It's a balancing act and he is very good at it.

After this mornings high tide there is much clearing up to do at Newsons yard so the open day that was planned for tomorrow Saturday 10th November has been cancelled. Sorry about the late notice but nature always has the last laugh. Watch this space for a future date. MASB32 is safe as is MTB102.

Richard.

Just to say a "public" word re Newsons yard, so glad that all is well with the boats of course, the predictions for that part of the world were quite horrendous of course, in the end some 20 cms below the predictions, but they were at 3 metres!, can imagine a lot of stuff was washed down so quite understandable re open day. Hope another can be arranged, I imagine 32 will be on the water by then, but Spitfire could be seen I am sure. Of course progress can be view as I have done via Newsons web-site, great pics of Spitfire being moved, noted PROPER lifting of such vessels!.

thanks for that, yes we did get plenty of water up at the yard 5ft more than normal in fact but as the building was designed to flood the only damage as such was caused by fuel and oil floating around from outside.
lost our yard launch, sunk but now recovered along with a boat being worked on beside the slipway but as we were going to launch it anyway saved us the job, its now happily floating in the slipway.
As for a Visit we will arrange another but as we had moved everything up the shop for safety sake its a bit of a muddle at present. 32 is perfectly ok and the outer skin is going on at a pace.
