Hi Michael

Fast Motor Boat, most likely 45 feet although there were several sizes.

Regards,

Christian.

As far as I am aware the boats designated as "Fast Motor Boats" were only used by the RN, they were primarily built in 25ft and 35ft sizes for use on warships (destroyers and cruisers), the largest 45ft version (for battleships) was also often used as an Admirals Barge kept at shore bases (they also used another round bilge design called an MSMB- Medium Speed Motor Boat, or Picket Boat, also 45ft, for this purpose). The hull design of the 45ft FMB is very similar to that of the larger DWC. There were other very similar vessels used by other authorities including the Police and Pilots. Several versions were also built as private vessels, also using DD construction, making it difficult to identify the origins of some surviving craft.
