Ex British Warship in Portugal?

   Hi, please forgive my ignorance on the subject. I really know nothing about boats.
I was on holiday with my partner in Portugal a couple of years ago and we visited Lagos marina on a day trip. 
There we saw what we thought looked like a ww2 warship - maybe small - boat/ship?
Then later a friend of mine who had also stayed in the Algarve (not with us) said that he had been told by the owner of the hotel where he was at, that a friend of his (the owner of the hotel) had bought an ex British warship to re-fit.
Me and my partner started to think about the things this ship and its crew might have been through.
Shouldn't this ship/boat be in a museum - I mean it could have been in WW2.
What will they do with this ship? I think it's rather sad.
