You may all be interested to know that the magazine “FlyPast” published by Key publishing ltd has an interesting article about costal defence. The magazine is about old (mainly ww2) airplanes and is running a series of articles called “The men behind the medals”. This months (December) article on page 34 is about Air Sea Rescue Launch skipper Flt Lt David Jones. It contains a great deal of information about the ASR service as he was skipper of a few whalebacks.
Its also interesting to note that one of the stories told concerning the rescue of the RAF walrus is also told by Eric Blackman in his book called AiRMAN at the HELM.It would appear that they served on the same boat (HML 186 )towards the end of the war and were both posted to the far east ,where they both ended the war. An great book for anyone interested in RAF ASR.
