Northeastuser, To find the harbour launch you need to go further into the site, she looks ok (from a distance). Did you get a result for a g/box regarding the lifeboat? If I remember correctly Marica had thornycroft's, as it is now a houseboat he might be able to help ypu as it's for a good cause

Ok I have found the advert. Nice old boat.

Re the gearbox, looks like it may have been the reduction box, the reverse gear has seized on the shaft causing the shaft to spin and weld its self into the reduction box casing. So as bad as it sounds, it means the box looks ok and we may just need bearings and possibly a new shaft turning up. They may even have it all done by the time I next go aboard!

The other lads certainly seem to know what their doing.

Northeastuser, it would have been tragic if they could not have raised any revenue, one of the lads involved with her owns  Glenislay ex S.T. 466 built buy Stanilands of Thorne which is up for sale.

You mean the S.T. in the Hartlepool boatyard. I heard that hes had it for a long time and that he’s rebuild the cabins etc. went to have a look at her myself (for a friend). The price of 5k combined with the puddles of water under the keel which to me indicated that she takes rainwater in through the decks and lets it out past week seams in the keel, put me off a bit. Someone also told me that he seized one of her engines up though he may have been talking about another boat.

Other than that she does look nice.

If the price was more reasonable ( bearing in mind the one that went on the main BMPB website was asking 1 k) I would take another look.

He’s probably paid about 1k in marina fees since I looked at her.

I did not think she had anything major wrong with her considering her age. However the gent who sent me to look at her wanted something to just get in and go. Personally I prefer the working on them than the sailing bit.

Hell if he wants to give her to me, I promise to restore her

How long is she' looks a bit Derby Winners Class to me, maybe it's just the black stripe down the hull? Nice though, perhaps the water puddles could be down to her being out of the water and the planks shrinking?

rozm2, I can see where you are coming from with the way she has her wheelhouse but when she first came to Hartlepool she was as an S.T. is built with the Cox'n's position forward, she is a 40ft S.T which seems to be the length narrow beam  S.T's were built at by boatbuilder's after B.P. stopped building them, she does need a lot of work doing to her as you have read, some boatbuilders put the band on the hull sides and some did not it all depends on who built them, it is of course to protect the sides when working close to bouy's as it is difficult to hold a fender between a rolling bouy and the boat side's, if you unfortunatly make contact when trying to stand off when  the element's are against you

A similar vessel in need of some TLC perhaps, on the NHSC website:

Hi rozm2,

According to the NHSC web site-"REGULUS is one of eighteen 45- foot Bird class fast launches, built by the British Powerboat Company Ltd".

Her condition is very poor and she is currently under threat of demolition.

Is she the last of her type? Does anybody know of another survivor?
