Hi, just joined the forum and saw your posting regarding 2561 and 2559, my late father served on 2559 during the war and I've recently got in touch with possibly the last crew member still alive. I have in dads album several photos of 2559 and other HSLs. Do you know by any chance what happened to 2559?

Hi Kestrel,
Just spotted your post and welcome aboard, sure hon. colleagues on this forum may have some info, if you look up HSL 2552 the prototype for the Hants and Dorset class, now under restoration at RAF Hooten park, link on the links page of this site, may also be of interest. All the best, Johnk |

Thank you johnk, I have already contacted the guy restoring 2552 and he has advised me to visit the national archives at Kew for the service records of 2559 which I intend to do soon. I will also be visiting the RAF museum at Hendon as they want to scan dads photos, I went there sometime ago when dad was alive and we were allowed to look over the HSL on display there. Anyway thanks again for getting back to me.

Hi, I've just found and joined the site because you feature, and have commented on our ex HSL 2656. We bought Astral as a rubbish-filled but sound hull in 1986 and have lived
aboard since then. Moving ashore and asking 70K for the boat isn't the case at all! I know the superstructure is not aesthetically pleasing, but hey, it's a houseboat with headroom! The best bit is that in 1990 the then archivist at the RAF museum in Hendon researched information we had, and authenticated the number, even providing a section of the original Log. Brilliant, and what an important piece of history, eh? |

Hi there,
Many thanks there, most interesting, have already a place so...but great that you have saved her for the past near twenty years now, have said before, without you guys finding a new use, most of our historic coastal forces craft would not be her, I hope you get what you want for her and a good new home.
