Hello all,
I found this photo image while trawling the web and thought it might be of interest to the site users. Unfortunately it is a rather sad image depicting the final resting place of two types of legendary RAF machinery - A Hants & Dorset RTTL and three Short Sunderlands (tail of third just visible in far right). I'm guessing this in the far east somewhere, but I am sure those with more knowledge will confirm. A real shame that such graceful boats ended their working lives by being abandoned. |

A further sign of the times is the increase in the price of steel and scrap - so those with a commercially minded attitude only see the value and not the worth, hence the final day of this "Worthy"

Hi David,
Great images, indeed, with scrap prices as they are, any steel vessel is liable for the chop rather than preservation!

the top pic of the H&D and the Sunderlands is Seletar, taken circa 1958/59

Out of curiosity, where was the landing craft and what year was the photo taken?

Thanks David,
My father had one like this years ago when they build airfields on the Aran Islands. Was this one a WW2 LCM? I seem to remember they were about 40' but I may be wrong. Regards Don |

Don,
As far as I know it was WW2 , I had uploaded some other pictures of her a year or so back, but I can't find where they were posted. If you want I can post them again.
Apparently there was a group interested in her, and it was offered to them at half scrap value, but they didn't have the money.

Looks like the landing craft was bigger than the ones used in 'Saving Private Ryan'.
