Hello, This might be of interest to someone, quite an unusual small craft. This boat currently works out of Paignton harbour, Devon, doing wreck fishing trips. Photos explain the type etc. I've no idea of the vintage, perhaps someone out there does? Enjoy.

Last one not very clear but it provides a good idea of what the guys using these boats had to endure. The owner has displayed these in a case close to the slip where she operates from. Anyone got information on the era and usage of this type of craft? I'm guessing looking at the headgear worn in the last photo its WW2?

Hello Christian
Thanks for that, an interesting read. Must see if I can talk with the owner to see if any history is known about Tuonela. Will post on forum what I find. regards |

Does anyone know if there is still a fairly complete (British) LCM or LCP that could be saved?
My father had a WW2 LCM years ago when his company were building airstrips on the Aran Islands for 'Aer Aran' in the early '70's. I don't know what happened to her but I have fond memories and wouldn't mind getting involved with one again! |

Hello Don
Are you only interested in a restoration project? I ask because the way the tourist fishing industry goes around here, boats often change hands on an annual basis. I can always drop you a line if Tuonela ever comes up for sale. Remove the forward wheel house and shes not too far away from original. Regards Roy |

Hi Roy,
Thanks for the posting. A project would be best as I'd like to restore to original and keep the cost down and spread over a longer period. Anyone want ST 365 (see below)? She needs a good home Would trade for LCP in any condition!! http://www.rania.co.uk/ST365/hadtojackcradle12asweneeded156withportacabinontop.jpg |

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uRSqicxy0Hg Gorgeous or what!! The one we had in the '70's was exactly like this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=v609DpSqBPg&feature=related I wonder what happened the Higgins Boats used in Saving Private Ryan. Probably rotting away somewhere! Cheers Edited by Pioneer - 28 June 2008 at 11:26am |
