hello there, i work as a volunteer for a london boat training school in westminster. recently we have been repairing some 1959 light alloy assualt boats. we have been replacing the waterproof seals and re-riveting the hulls. does anybody know anything about these boats? they are very good workhorse boats for the boat trust charity i work for. does anybody know of where we could buy some more of these boats? i hope to be of help in the future. all the best. alex. Hello China, Not much of practical help to offer, but we may well have used such a craft for a while here at Chatham marina as a workboat, unfortunatley, ours leaked like the proverbial sieve and we eventually sold if for scrap! despite efforts to seal it. You seem to have better luck, regards any for sale, well, can only think of the trusty web or the boats for sale mags, though statement of the obvios perhaps. Johnk |

hello, yes we have found out a way to stop the boats leaking but it takes a lot of man hours to repair and pop rivet back all the inside hull sheeting. it is only probally worth it to do the job oneself on ones own boat as the time it would take to pay somone to do it would be too expensive. thanks for the reply, it was a shame it got sold for scrap as they make fantastic work boats and are tough as nails. the military today dont make them anymore most likley due to the cost of manafacture and the price of aluminuem, aswell as repair logistics. i have tried looking for such boats on the internet but i am finding rather hard to track any down, boats and outboards.co.uk had some but the advert was removed some time ago and there was an auction on another web site. apart from that i am finding nothing as yet. i was realy chuffed when i found this web site from doing a search for ex military craft. i think this is a great platform for my project. so thanks goes to bmpt. if anybody would like to learn how to repair these boats and can help me find a few then i would be interested in starting such a project, to help keep some of these l.a.a.b afloat. if anyone is interested in such a project or wants to discuss these boats or knows of where i can find one then please leave a message. thanks and cheers. alex. Hello Alex, No problem, indeed, the up keep is the key, but if you are as you say, doing it yourself is probably is the only cost effective way, sorry that the supply appears to have dried up but you never know, keep an eye on the site you never know what is out there.
