According to the Newsletter December 2011 from the London Branch of the former CFVA, there are now serious plans to construct a new Fairmile "D". The preliminary proposal can be seen within http://cfv.org.uk/veterans/newsletter/london-branch-december-2011

Interesting to note that it is planned under the auspicies of the Federation of Naval Associations with a suggestion of having a future 'Memorial Naval Squadron'.

This is absolutely awesome news and I note the article tells some of the story of MTB 781. I am doing a model (1/144th scale) of a dog boat in the future and I think it most appropriate I now do it as MTB 781. I also noted that 781's skipper also served on ML 145 which rammed and sank the S-96, I'm also doing 145 in her early war weapons fit.

A new fairmile D! In their dreams . Coastal forces have spent the last twenty five years trying to save a fairmile and failed , so to build one from scratch is even more far fetched . good luck !

Hi there,

Noted last re the proposed project for 718, well, I think a lot of people have said to be honest, most marine hertiage projects were far fetched, impossible, waste of time and perhaps money, but to have such a vessel to join the others we are so lucky to have, MTB 102 HDML Medusa, 81 etc would be fantastic. We have the example from railways of Tornado, a locomotive completly built from scratch, to origional plans, if railways can....

Me again,

Also noted last from Phil there, indeed have mentioned before re S130, appreciate views that it is a German vessel and was used against us of course, but ironic such a vessel is being restored here and yet we do not have our own vessel any more, our record here on maritme preservation as I say, has some fantastic achievments but also some terrible losses which need not have been.

My understanding Phil, is that this project has nothing to do with the CF Heritage Trust or the former CFVA. A Mr P Webster (an invited guest, not a member) outlined the project at a recent London Branch meeting (of the former CFVA) and stated that this is to be a privately funded venture with a time scale spanning a few years.
'johnk' has mentioned the S130 project - the current standing with this project was a deciding factor evidently, in the decision to 'build new', as opposed to a refurb of any existing 'D' (if one could be found). The timbers within S130 are causing a serious (and costly) headache for that team, was also revealed to the meeting.
Like yourself Phil, I can only wish this project the best of 'Good Luck' and hope that, like the Tornado project mentioned by johnk, this will turn out to be just as successful.
