 When I visited the Chatham Historic Dockyard down in Kent last year I saw what looked like a Fairmile by the dockyards pontoon, does anyone know more about it? From what I remember it had been converted, not too heavily though I think

Hello Robert

To my knowledge there are only 2 Fairmile MGB survivors (C-Type);

Xoron at Bembridge (ex MGB 321)

and Eidolon (ex MGB 325);

Any chance of a pic of the boat you saw?

I spotted these 2 Hulls at Rochester UK earlier this year - a poor image I know - but the rear most Hull had 483 painted on the Bow - the Black Hull had a name that I was unable to read (they ain't what they used to be:(

Hi Pioneer

These look to be ex Ham Class inshore minesweepers,beamier aft than a Fairmile B and no portholes.The grey one looks to be very original.

Links to a couple of other very original Hams for sale

this second one could be the grey one you pictured.She was for sale in Belgium.

A lovely Ham conversion(listed as a Fairmile)

 some sad news indeed!

 One of the last fairmiles's ML162 was towed off to be broken last week.

Made an attempt to save her and so did a few dutch guys but the broads authority had made up thier minds and history and determination cant stand in the way of politics.

 They made this decision just before they increased the chocolate ration from 30grammes to 25grammes i think.

I'm glad sir Winston S cant see this happenning

Hi Clive,

Just had a look, well, seems at least long enough for a D PERHAPS, but may by just wishfull thinking, any of our more knowledgable people have any ideas?

I thoght it was a B converted. I did not mention the 's' as I had not heard of it before and assumed it was a mistake or just part of the ID number....

Hi Clive

Golden Arrow ex Sea Queen (or Sea Kayem) thought most likely to be ex ML 917. Yes, a Fairmile B.

There was never a Fairmile S.

Rgds, Christian.

Hi Christian

Yes the "S" had Phil Simons puzzled when I mentioned it to him today!

Small hopes about her being that elusive last remaining "D" boat!

regards  Mark
