Hello All
I am a new boy to the Forum - but not to the BMPT website - I would welcome any help and advice on buying/restoring and locating a Seaplane Tender - I am only in the early stages at looking at the possibility of owning an SP at the moment - Having just taken early retirement - but all advice/comments welcome.
Many Thanks
Bob.

Hi Bobster,
I'm restoring a little BPB seaplane tender. I've got a small site at www.rania.co.uk/ST where there are photos of the boat, it's restoration and some other seaplane tenders. It's a starting point.
The advice I'll give you is buy the best one you can find. The main problem I've had is freshwater (rain) ingress that damaged in 3 places the double diagonal planking.
They are cracking boats though. If you find more than one for sale, do let me know!
Good luck
Don

Hi Bob,
There is one on ebay at the moment. See the MTB forum link below, it's at the bottom of the page.
http://www.bmpt.org.uk/forum/forum_posts.asp?TID=144&PN= 1&TPN=7
She has no engines but that is really no problem. Superstructure not at all original too.
I'd imagine there will be a bit of intertest in her.
Cheers

Hi Bob, Re the ebay boat:
At 41'6" she is a Seaplane tender and not a HSL. It is very unlikely
that she was ever armed and would have been originally fitted with
Meadows 100hp petrol engines.
If you look at page 2 of the topic above, you'll see a photo of a HSL that is just about to rot away. If you look at www.rania.co.uk/ST there are links to lots of photos of her under the HSL145 links in the "other boats" section. Also look at the links to HSL 2548 abandoned in Spain.
Cheers

The steel hull put me off (not that'd I'd want it) there's something about the wooden double or tripple diagronal hulls. Have you been to look at any other possibles?

Hi rozm2
Think I have located an ST (With a stuck on Cruiser Cabin)
But check with DGray first as i sent him the pics to check if she is the real thing!
The Marina she is in wants to burn her,(Ownership Issues/Dry Berth Fees)
If you want pics check the members list for my e-mail Address and i will send them on to you.
She is in Loch Lomond Marina in Balloch,Dumbartonshire...so a bit away from you...

Hi, She seems to be a seaplane tender all right. I'd love to know her length, what she's like internally and what engines are fitted.
Cheers

The Balloch boat is quite close to where I live and from memory... it is a 35' BPBCo boat, (but I could wrong and would need to check) which I think was a civil seaplane tender or launch. A few years ago the owner set about to 'improve' the after cabin arrangement and it has never gone back on the water. Prior to that it was out on Loch Lomond quite often.
BTW there is also a 41'6" at the Norther end of the loch but that is underway in a slow refit for private loch cruising.
Best regards Andy

Hi Andy
The Marina owner is keen to be rid of her,but the law will save her for the time being.
Yes the rear cabin was started ,but not finished, she was in the clyde before moving to the Loch, did one season on the Loch about 10 years ago before lifted out.
Hope to Talk to the former owner this week (He was on holiday)He is Called Jim Lynch, works for Campbells Comercials in Heather Ave Alexandria....Jim did a lot of work on her and sailed her in the Clyde.Jim's boys could ski off the back of her when she was running.
Jim has offered to help break her up for the running gear and engines, pity to see her broken up.
Where is the Tender at the North of the Loch would love to know?
Regards Jim.

Hi Jim/Andy, I was told that she sank quite a few years ago and hasn't moved since. Yard owner said she was pretty far gone. The hull seems (from the photos) sound but with gaping holes in the deck, fresh water damage is certain.
I agree, it would be an awful shame to see her broken up. Again, it's all down to ownership. Do you know what the situation in Scottish law is?
Depending on that, a simplwe hull survey would be the best way forward. I'd love to know if she was civil or military.
Perhaps the (previous) owner Jim has some photos of her around that could help.

Hi Sentley,
Many thanks your response, interested in this seaplane tender, is it in Kent? I think the one at the boatyard down here is still about, so would be interested if its the same one, afloat but empty, some rumour about engines but not sure.

Hi Sentley, John, Don and Andy
My take is that she is a 45ft Admiralty FMB (Fast Motor Boat) like Madonna (built by JS White) which we saw for sale a month or two ago. I don't think she came from the same yard as it looks as though the outer planking run is with the bow, rather than against as per JS White built boats.

Hi All,
Yes, she is familliare to me, she has been at the Hoo marina for some years and was for sale a few years ago, on hard standing for a while to, quite nice, but was damaged on lifting but repaired I believe under insurance.

Further to the above and other post with e-bay reference, well, the above is the boat I know but not the one on e-bay! its in Wales for a start and ashore in a sorry state, having been attacked by vandals including arson, fair play to the owner who tells people that on the entry, interesting construction.

"Runaway"
is an Admiralty 45ft FMB(Fast Motor boat). There were some 58 of these built
between
1936
& 1945.
Some
were built as 45ft FMB & Barge, others as 45ft Picket Boats, others as 45ft
Seagoing Motor Boats and finally some as 45ft Hospital Launches and Fire Boats.
They
were two and three engined boats originally, some were used as VIP Boats and
Admirals barges and were carried on battleships.
the
general arrangement of the 45ft Fast Sea Going Motorboat, though of course none
of your cabins may have been original.
These
boats were built in two batches 1940/41 & 1943/4 by J.S White at Cowes
This is
what ive been told about my boat that i have just rescued do you know if ive
done the right thing or not
I have
got her for sale on ebay in the hope some one will be able to hell her back to
glory
Do you
know of any organisation that might be interested in her
Best
regards
Mark
