She's a corker isn't she? Just come up for sale in Lisbon and I have sent a message to the broker asking for full details including history. What I can tell you is that grown-ups only need apply, she's going for half a million quid as befits one of only two seaworthy Whalebacks left. Twin Mercedes 240hp diesels.I will post more info as I get it.

Regards,Christian.

Hi Christian, I think there is a whaleback on the Hamble, she is currently being 'done-up' but is afloat. Pictures to follow when I can get to a PC. Regards David.

Hi David

That is intersting news indeed, I wonder if it is Freelance ex MGB 45. Do you know her name?

VMT again for all the superb Hyperion photos, I have built the hull, see http://home-and-garden.webshots.com/album/553784041nXVfkq - http://home-and-garden.webshots.com/album/553784041nXVfkq I decided to put a "how to" guide on the web as it is fairly easy to do a GRP model boat hull from plan to plug to mould to hull(s) but there realy isn't much information (or pictures) available on the internet.

The Lisbon Whaleback is called Asangyo, I should be getting her yard number next week and therefore her RAF number.

Regards,Christian.

Hi again David, excuse earlier brain fade, it is far more likely to be Moonlight ex 63ft MA/SB 27 which was photographed above by my Dad in March 2005 at Hamble. I have heard she is at Burlesdon.

Regards, Christian.

Hello All, been reading the forum for quite a while now, thought it was time to contribute something!

I have been interested in "patrol boats" ever since holidays in the Isle of Wight took me to Bembridge, I have photos from the early 70's and I still remember the feelings of awe and sadness at the sight of these wonderful boats looking tired but still magnificent, I remember then always wanting to live on one!

I also took a few pics of boats in Woodbridge, Suffolk, including I think the Whaleback that is discussed elsewhere on the forum.

I will dig these out and have a scanning session, so I should post them soon.

I have been following the boats for sale and due to a change in my circumstances...(code for recently divorced and now renting a flat!) I may be in the market for one of the Gib boats..but I will have to see!

As Saturday was so nice I finally went to see the houseboat centre and the boats at Hoo, I met some very nice owners including the current owner of "Freelance", a lovely boat, still afloat and in very caring hands, they hope to start some more work on her soon, incl rebuilding the engines.

Then down to Shoreham, again a place from my childhood (my dad had a boat thing too!), took a lot of pics and some are posted below.

I will do another post to talk about one of the interesting boats "Enstone".

Sorry this is a bit of a long one, looking forward to more posting and very happy to see that lots of people are as interested as me in preventing these precious boats disappearing forever.

Take care everyone and have a good week!

Mark

Hi Mark,

Welcome to the site, most interesting to hear from you, indeed sad to see these once great vessels in such a state, but hope you might be able to get hold of one of the Gib boats, they are great and well looked after. I met the guy who had Freelance before the current people, she is a nice vessel indeed, he had origional plans on boad for a 70ft BPB Co vessel and a ASR launch, did you see them? All the best,

Hi John

Didn't want to impose on the owners so didn't go aboard but had nice chat with the lady owner/co owner!  She was telling me that the boat was used by Polish forces and there was a picture of the crew onboard.

I would think that BPB Co vessels must be pretty rare these days? I have a bit of a book collection going on patrol boats the latest ones being the "Allied Coastal Forces" Vol 1+2, they describe the whole series in amazing detail.

Hi Mark,

Understood, quite right she was with Polish forces and the previous owner had some stuff about her on the web, heard of the books you mention, talked about quite a bit on this forum, vol three is apparently on the way, look forward to more post in due course.

Does anyone recognise the boat that is advertised for sale (port side of the MA/SB) on the HAMBLE in the third picture from the top (on the previous page).
Thanks
