Okay, technically I know it's now a sail boat, but it was originally steam driven..

She was built by Rowhedge Ironworks c.1911 and we have no idea of her proper ID number- I have posted in the Pinnace forum asking for help with this if thats possible

There is another boat on the island (sadly in an advanced state of decomposition) that looks similar to something I have seen on this topic.. I will get hubby to try and find the photo and post it here later.

hello Boatbird, lucky you, moored at Paphos my favourite place. When you took the photo's of 2625 was the 1/2 Higgin's P.T. boat still nearby, both were caught by the Marine Police smuggling to Beruit many year's ago and "disabled" with the owner's thrown in prison! There was also what looked like a "Brave" sans gas turbines being rebuilt in the same area do you know if she is still there?

Not that I could see, the 2625 hull is getting pretty over grown with weeds round the edges and other nearby boats are covered over with tarps. If I knew what shape of boat I was looking for it might help though!

Hello B.B. as you see I am new to the forum and as yet I am not quite sure how to upload photo's, The Higgins P.T. had been chopped in half and only front half along with gun tubs remain, she had at sometime been retro fitted with two Davy Paxman Turbo-Charged v12s which look massive in the engine room compartment. It's 5 years since I was Last at Paphos so the "brave" style hull may well be finished and gone, both were behind the keo Brewery. if you are looking for other interesting boats I can point you to a few on the island.

sure am, although new to the forum  have been messing about wiith boat's since my first dinghy in 1948 all the way through to 75,000tn O.B.O'S which was my last ship, both (M.N & R.N. vessels covered) as an Engineer. In regards to Malta most of the boat's are covered on the site and I remember Southern Televisions M.G.B. camera boat very well I hope the efforts to preserve her go as planned

hello northeastuser, there is an interesting boat out in Malta or possibly Gozo if you can get across there. She was Hitler's personal barge or no1 motor boat off his yacht Grille she is called Grillette and was undergoing a refit out there, if you look at a photo of a German capital ship the motor boat hull shape is the same although Grillette has now a centre wheelhouse, it would be a good find.

I knew that name was familiar,

After the second world war Hitler's yacht Grille (Tr "Grasshopper ") was captured and brought into Hartlepool for decommissioning. Her boats were offered for sale and 'Tot' Richardson bought the one which had been used as the Fuhrer's personal barge. He turned down an offer to display her on Blackpool's Golden Mile, named her Grillette and sailed her for many years. Tommy Richardson made several pairs of extra wide water skis so that he and his mates could ski behind her to entertain regatta crowds with their own Cypress Gardens style show ! Grillette has since been converted into a comfortable modem cruiser and is still in use today on the Trent.”

From the Hartlepool yacht club website.

Any idea when she started her refit?

Hi All,

Read the posts but Billy think you won't have time to look for boats. By the time you have done the hull on 506, painted her and been to collect the paxman diesels. Rebuilt them, sourced gearboxes and fitted the whole lot to 506 even if you have time you will be to knackered!! Seriously though any photos of other interesting boats would be great.

Ah! The much vaunted Siesta. Have you not heard, only Mad Dogs and Englishmen go out in the noon day sun. In other words Siesta does not apply to Brits and anyway I am sure there is some p.c. law against it!!

Have fun. Don't sleep too much.Big smile

the Grille which was about the size of a destroyer came to Hartlepool to have her turbines fixed by Richardson Westgarth after being sabotaged by the German's, whilst she was there Alva Liddel the great wartime news reader was involved in showing people around, unfortunatly after each tour the ship was getting lighter and lighter so they were stopped! Grillette's 6ltre Mercedes/Benz was also sabotaged(by pouring salt water into the bore's) which is why Mr Richardson managed to swap her for an Austin 10 and he promptly fitted her with a truck engine and used her for many years. Grille was going to be used for offshore gambling (mafia involvment suspected) and was eventually arrested by the American's, she was also considered by King George VI as a replacement for the Royal Yacht mailto:V@A - V@A but due to a her previous owner it was decided against. grillette was last heard of (last year in Gozo) under refit, she is in herself an historic survivor and I am amazed that the German Maratime museum have not snapped her up as she is just as historic as any e-boat and she did see "action" in the Channel when Grille was used for Minelaying
