I found this the other day, and thought a few of you may find it of interest.

As you may know '32 had type 134 ASDIC fitted so could be similar kit to what was on board, any ideas?

Clive, some info regarding Special Ops which you may or not be aware of, known as "Deputy Director Operations Division (Irregular)" a.k.a. DDOD(I).Set up by Captain Frank Slocum R.N. a relative of  Joshua Slocum not Mrs, they did use MASB's for their work although the number's appear to be 36&40, however in times of high workload I would have thought that any MASB fitted with Sonar would be drafted in to help. It does seem a bit strange that non of the Older Hands have come forward with info and it would seem unlikely that a boat on special ops would tell all by showing a large "S" unless it stood for Slocum's "Fleet" of vessel's? which would of course would be outside the normal Naval Command System. Happy New Year to You and I hope some money comes your way!!

Clive, the vessel's were;  M.G.B's 314,318,319,323,324,325,326&329
                                M.T.B,s 673&697
                                MA/SB,s 36&40
                                R.A.F. S.T. 360
                                1off Submarine
                                2off Replica Tunnymen ( with the speed of M.T.B's)
                                M.F.V.'s 2020, 2022&2023
                                2 off French M.T.B.'s
 However at "peak periods" of operations he did have the "facility" to borrowing any other craft and it would seem (to me anyway) that a craft with  Sonar that can navigate and therefore map coastal waters like 32 would be ideal for undercover work with the added ability for a quick getaway if rumbled. There was a lot of "people" who had to be de-canted from France after Dunkirk and a lot of  "people" who went into France by boat before "D" Day + equipment of course, I know the above does not prove their is a link with S32 and the Special Ops world but it seems reasonable that she could have been involved bearing in mind her attributes.
 
Johnk, the front of the Fairmile D in Norway apparently still exsist's and can be seen at low tide, all you need is to persaude one of your Marina vessel's to take you up there.
