I have just been chatting with an ex RNZAF chappie re seaplane tenders in Fiji.

Apparently there were two stationed there, 275 and 276.  75' long with three Hall Scott 1000hp engines capable of 40 knots.

276 was considered beyond service life and abandoned at the Waku Bay shipyard in 1960, ( he took her there and 'dropped her off ).  He does not know what happened to 275.

Both boats were ex Solomons, Guadalcanal.

Does anybody know what class of boat these were please and any pics?

cheers,

Art

The Miamis used by the RNZAF were W275 Aotea and W276 Tainui (a 3rd boat was lost in 1946).
They were sold in the 50s (W275, in Auckland) and in 1960 (W276 at Lauthala Bay).
There have been no sightings of these boats in private or commercial use, it is possible one or both survive as so many of this type have survived elsewhere.

My apologies Christian,

I am getting confused by all the different configurations. Senior moment.

From the RAFASRC site I get this pic of a Miami class.

Very American shape as could be expected.

From this, discarding all above the deckline possibly, I now know what to look for?

The ID 2520 rings a bell for a different boat somewhere.

cheers,

Art
