Can anyone provide some evidence as to why the E-Boats were in fact designated E-Boats by the RN? I've heard that the "E" stood for Enemy, but that seems odd considering that the German navy had various types of vessels. Thanks.

Hello 'ronobo08' Welcome aboard. I very much doubt if there will be 'evidence' of why the 'E' became the recognised Allied term for the Schnell Boote. It well be because it was very much on an every night (and day) basis that action was made between the Allied and Axis navies and a quick method of I D com's was needed - it will be interesting to find out if others have a more plausable reason. |
