I’m glad Clive is having her shipped. My point was that no one slated him and said ”I told you so” after he failed to get her home on her keel. We have stopped with the Ambra at a sensible stage and all I can see is people having sly digs. Yes I agree the vessel has to be done properly. I’m not stupid. that’s why Ambra had been left. In the time available to us there no way we can do her justice. Its not for want of desire. This whole thing started with wizard getting things backwards over a conversation regarding engines etc. While he was at it he threw in a comment bout my income and taking my head out of the sand. This I object to as he knows nothing about me. Christian put him right about what was being discussed and I made reference to my income. I believe I have sorted out my differences with wizard( at least I hope I have). However my reference to Clive taking his vessel to Newsons was a guess because of the sudden way he came to wizard defence, completely ignoring the what started the discussion. You can tell a persons loyalties by the way they ignore if someone is wrong. If he wasn’t coming to wizards defence id like to know why the sudden character assignation attempt. Do you guys really expect me not to defend myself? Id be curious to know what your last comment was aimed at Tremontona. Are you implying I don’t know what you have just stated? It sounded awfully like a dig or a “told you so”. Oh and by the way, it may be at great expense to us but somehow I don’t think it is at great expense to Clive. If safety was the main concern with an old hull she would have went that way in the first place. The only reason the Ambra was coming home on her own keel was lack of funds. First choice was shipping her. As far as I am conserned (and for the sake of this forum) this converstion is over.I will defend myself against futher insults but that is it.If I have insulted or ofended anyone in the course of defending myself I apologise. But at least we tried. Edited by northeastuser |

My point exactly, ok you spent some money on getting gearboxes etc out there but you've learned practical skills, formed a group and are poised should annother suitable vessel come your way, and since you've had a good crawl round and done some work on 506 you'll now be better prepared for the next one, knowing where the rot spots are, how they fit together etc, hats off to you guys for getting out and doing something! (and anyone else who's activley involved in any other vessels!) |

"Either the wastage was horrendous or the profit was, either way its disgusting." that was your comment, I am in that business too. the plan has always, since day one,(february) to make Newsons the first stop, I am sorry if I did not make this common knowledge. The plan was to get her out and in the water before the air show, this will not happen. A pound is a pound whoever it belongs to, people are not aware of my reasons for bringing '32 home, neither do I advertise my finances- I don't feel I have ever had to but '32 is not being financed from 'spare' money. with regard to the abandoned voyage home, some said stopping was right and some said I should have had bigger pumps some said it should not have been considered, I agreed with the skipper, no one elce was there or in possible danger(including me) so I welcomed all comments and have no problem with any. without the constant advice I Get every day I would not have been able to fund '32 this far or made decisions to her future. ' sudden character assignation attempt' - dont think so, I recon it is more like handbags at 5 paces! I agree, lets forget it, its getting a bit pathetic. |

Clive if you take a lump of timber that I won’t buy at 25 pounds and machine away 75% of it to make one plank then try and charge me 18 pounds, Well I’m sorry that is disgusting. Even if you machine it into 5 planks, selling it for 90 pounds is a bit much. I don’t think for a minute that you do that. If you do you should be ashamed of yourself . So that wasn’t directed at you. Any yes you have my apology for bringing your personal finances into it. Personally I think you’ve done everything absolutely right by ‘32. Just as I have tried to for the Ambra. ~all I want is for people to stop with the digs at my expense~sorry you find that pathetic. Edited by northeastuser |

Hi, All. From reading all the comments made I get the feeling that things are getting a bit out of hand. The main purpose of this Forum was to to offer help and advice and not to criticise, especialy of each others finances. It all started off well but since then it seems that a few heads need to be banged together, and get back to the helpfull suggestions. I think we all know that restoration and then running maintenance is very expencive. I know the problems as I was an ERA on coastal Forces between 1954 and 1956 and a lot of attention was paid to these boats to keep them up to scratch, and the various governments including the Admiralty should be ashamed of themselves for allowing so many boats fall into disrepair and not running a proper floating Museum of these boats which helped kept the German hoards from our shores. Gentlemen, Your friendly discussions have given me sleepless nights, as we try and get our immediate BMPT problems sorted. (News letter coming..!) With the your combined and vast expertise, and resources available collectively, could you all consider offering assistance with our FMB Ark Royal please...? We do not have a place to call our own, we lease space within the Marchwood Military Port, and certainly not a marine type workshop with facilities and expertise on hand to do the job. The 25ft FMB Ark Royal has been restored beautifully using a HLF grant, plus a huge chunk of BMPT savings. However we have a problem with the engine/gearbox (perkins 6 with power box) not holding oil , and as the working space around the engine is minimal, we will in all probability need to remove the engine/gearbox and find the problem. Then she can go to her berth in Hythe marina and earn her keep. She is on her purpose built road trailer, and can be delivered anywhere in the UK... Pics available.. ... --- ...
Thank you. |

Well you know me, as ever willing to help. However despite being a mechanic (but i can call upon help from marine engineers)I’m a one man band and you may be better off accepting the help of those who have better facilities and employ more people (before anyone asks I employ someone, but not at my place of work its a carer to help my disabled wife while I’m out.). If no one comes forward id be more than happy to lift out the engine and have a look. But I’m sure you will have had plenty of offers by now. Out of curiosity, do you have any idea why she’s loosing oil? |

Hi Pioneer, I can help with storage in a wet shed, shed or water, I cannot promise to do the work as my men are all busy (I always put myself to back of que.) It would not take me long to whip the engine out to send away or take off the gearbox (rear oil seal?) I would enjoy helping but I cannot commit to too much time as I would not like to offer something I could not honnour. I am a long way from Hythe but please contact me if I can help.

Well I’m even further away from Clive. So as long as your not in a hurry, he sounds like the best option. Especially if he’s going to have your bits sent away ,you’d be daft not to go with that idea! Edited by northeastuser |
