Hi Again,

This one I actually purchased a couple of weeks ago. According to the seller her father  and brother built it off plan about 30 years ago.
It has a single prop and rudder, no engine ( would have been a small combustion unit) and a funny arrangement with an air pipe piercing the hull just aft of the prop?

The model is 35 inches long and 10 inches wide, I will check it against the builders drawings at 1:20.

Rather than being an accurate model I think that it is a close approximation of an RTTL and I will treat it accordingly.

Again comments would be welcome.

Hi for the last time this session,

I purchased another model from the same seller on e-bay.
The hull profile is similar but not the same, possible built from the same plan and modified. The hull is again 35 inches long, the main difference is the lower chine which is consistent with a war period boat.
After talking with  rafwebfoot the concensus was that it was at least part Thornycroft in design. The seller mentioned that her father who built the model worked at Thornycrofts during and after the war.

Comments again please.

Hi,

2507 was a Mk.1 Thornycroft HSL - 67ft O/A.  The model bears a very slight resemblence topsides,  but the hull is more BPC than Thorny.

The scoop on the RTTL was the inlet for water cooling the engine, there shoul be an outlet on the side or transon to exhaust the heated water.

Fair winds,

Donald

Hi,

I don't suppose somebody out there has pictures and or drawings showing the Thornycroft HSL's.

There is an outlet on the transom of the boat, the engine is a single cylinder unit and has ENYA on part of the casing.

Thank you for the information Donald.

2754 is the Veron Vosper RTTL version, comes out smaller than 1/24th i have a set of original model plans if you want to restore her?

My dad and i built one in the 70's and she is still in a cabinet upstairs, still runs well.

Regards

Simon

Hi D-Zine

I have lots of drawings of the 67ft Thornycroft and I have been trying to upload some pics but all mine are far too large for the server to accept - will try and get them downsized.

I reckon your 2754 was built from the Vic Smeed plan in the Model Maker which was to 1-24th scale and would make the model 34" long.
